I am completely and absolutely fed up.

Over the past couple of months, there has been a significant increase in spam. Today's post was the last straw.

Why is this happening? What has changed in the board that is allowing access of all this spam?

We need to have the membership process revamped so that in order to be approved, you have to prove that you are a live human being. I know that there are boards that do that, with the "type the wavery letters" or whatever.

I am very unhappy about this.

That was honestly the first spam I had ever seen. I just threw up my coffee.

I've noticed quite a bit of spam as well and today's spam was over the top wrong.

I agree. I think you need to prove yourself somehow before being able to become a member. Usually the spam is just random stuff, like a jumble of letters but that was way beyond normal spam.

They do seem to pop up the most when us OCONUS ladies are online during the wee American hours. I don't know if this is an increase since I've only been oconus for 3 months. But I'll talk to the other mods tomorrow and see if something can be done.

ive been noticing this too! its ridiculous!

ive also been noticing that the spam is attached to really dead and buried old threads.......

sometimes im like i thought that person had been banned etc... or i thought that thread has been resolved who brought this **** back up......it re opens old wounds

I belong to one website forum, somethingawful.com, and in order to become a member there you pay a one time fee of $10.

That's not much money at all and there has never been spam on that site as long as I've been on there.

I don't know how much it would cost to add "type the phrase you see above" but I definitely think it needs to be added to the membership process. Some sites even have the "type only the BLUE" letters out of a jumble of black and blue letters. I think that would definitely help differentiate who is human and who isn't.

didn't we use to have that security measure before the switch?

the spam is aweful I agree and somethng needs to be done about it.
