More requests- inactive members? - Site Information

Mods/Lee/Grand Poohbahs........ as you probably know, we have a TON of members. However, as should be expected with this type of site, a lot of them are inactive. Does the software allow for inactive members to be moved into some sort of holding pen, where if they log in after a specific period of inactivity, they'll get a popup asking them to update and basically 'renew' their free membership? I'm thinking after 6 months of inactivity they get moved to the holding pen, and after a year of inactivity they fall out of the inactivity pen and into cyberspace, lost to the world forever.

I understand it might depend on what advertisers want to see. Are they more mpressed with total membership, or active members? If I was an advertiser, I'd want to know that my product is being seen by people, and the hug numbers of inactive posters who have already fallen off the face of the earth as far as the site is concerned, really aren't doing anything for the advertisers. I think you could even market that as a measure of how dynamic and active the site is: people who post and run are removed from rolls after a certain point.

I know Brandi goes through the list every so often and deletes accounts that have been inactive for x amount of time

I fully agree with this! And it will be great to free up those screen names.

Actually I believe it's already set up that inactive members who haven't logged on in 1 year are automatically purged.

I like that idea...

A board I was on before finding this one, if you hadn't logged on in a month or so A message popped up asking you to make a "update" post

Yes, it would! I wanted to change mine to Chelsea, but Brandi said it was taken...but I see no Chelsea post EVER. I bet she's inactive

I like this idea, but I think 12 mths, even 6 mths is too long. I think 3 mths is sufficiant enough
