    Need advice about EFMP reassignment

    Advertisements
My daughter and I are currently enrolled in EFMP
She is deaf and is in the deaf Ed program at her school.
We have to see an audiologist at least 3 times a year, we
Have to drive 3 hours away to the nearest one.
I have rheumatoid arthritis, my rheumatologist moved
Out of town last year. So I have to drive 2 hours to te nearest
    One.
Obviously the base where we are currently stationed at
Does not offer the services we need. We got orders to Japan
Last year but were denied because of our disabilities.

I'm about to submit the EFMP reassignment, would like
To know if it'll even be possible to get a reassignment and
How long would it be until we get an answer???

your asking for a Humanitarian reassignment- and everything will depend on the ACTUAL distance you are traveling - it does not matter how long it takes you to get there, but the distance from your Primary care giver. if your PCM is 40 miles away and it is an additional 50 miles to the spec from the PCM you will NOT be granted the HUMS. ( the limit is 60 miles from the PCM)

if it is 2 hours from your PCM then you are at better place for transfer.

Have you spoken with the EFMP Coordinator on base? He/she should be able to help you with your options.

It may not matter... but it's worth a shot. Our friends are EFMP and drive 3 hours to their specialist and that was with EFMP taken into account for the duty station. I'm not sure what branch you are though, seems other branches have much better EFMP programs. With everything out there I think the Air Force has one of the worst ones.. The Navy has the best.

I'm not asking for a humanitarian reassignment, my daughters disability is
Permanent so it's not going to to improve with in 12 months, neither is mine.
I know that is one of the requirements to qualify for humanitarian reassignment.

Yes I did speak to the EFMP coordinator, she was the one that advice us to get our clearance forms done and submit it.
She did gave me hope, so I'm praying for the best.

It will depend on your exact circumstances and what the military considers adequate care.
The actual time frame will depend on a lot of things, including the COC that is in charge of handling your application. They're SUPPOSED to have time frames on these things, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

We're waiting for medical reassignment for a medical problem my husband (the service member) has and we've been waiting for a while. It took over to 2 months for the paperwork to get pulled together properly and now the paperwork has been submitted and awaiting approval for almost 2 weeks.

When my son was enrolled in EFMP last year, it took well over a month for the paperwork to be submitted and them to get the correct therapy set up and started.

If you are approved, it could still take a few months for them to find a position for your spouse somewhere else. The needs of the military always come first, and you are receiving care, even if it isn't how you would like it to be provided.

Granted, I'm in South Korea, so things are slow here under the best of circumstances.

We are at a duty station that has none of the specialist my son needs. We have been waiting for a medical reassignment for months. We started back in 2011. Now its been approved for months and they are telling us they cant find a location stateside for my son. From when we stated it to now its been 15 months.
