    Help **Help with apartment hunting**

    Advertisements
I tried Googling questions to ask when contacting landlords/apartment managers and a lot of the questions seem to be easily answered by reading the ad.

Are there questions that I should ask before viewing the apartment? What's been your best and most effective strategy for figuring out the best place for your needs?

Also, is it common practice to ask if the roommates are married?

    Any insight is greatly appreciated!

    Ask about:
    Security deposit
pet policy (you have allergies so this could be key for you)
    what maintenance is your responsibility
is sewage and water your responsibility

Ill add more as I think

Ask about what utilities are covered.
How much on average are the utilities that aren't covered.
    What's parking like.
    Pet policy.
    Laundry facility.
How much is the late fee if rent is late.
Does it have a dishwasher or garbage disposal.

Is that the kinds stuff your looking for?

What is included in the rent and what will you have to pay? Is the stove electric/gas? Is there heat and ac? How old is the carpet (that matters to me)? Any recent maintenance? Is there outgoing mail? Parking? Pets? Fish tanks (if that applies to you)? Area loudness? Any flea/bug outbreaks that were reported?

I can think of a ton but they are escaping me.

These are all great! Thank you!

I wouldn't have thought to ask those questions.

One of the places I called had 350 sq. ft. They said it was meant for a single person.

That's small!! Also most places require a application fee per person, but one fee if it's a married couple. That could be why they are asking if you are married.

This is probably true for a lot of places but my experience has always been two fees, one for DH and one for me.

Our last place was $35.00. We had to fill out separate apps also.

Were in military housing now so we didn't have to do it this time.

Yeah, I heard about a $20 per adult.

I'm taking charge since DF is about school.
