Well my DH got a letter for discharge yesterday He can't be put into the weight program because he is 2% over the max (8% body fat) you can be at to be put in it. Nothing is final yet because he is going to contest it and has one of the officers on the ship who highly disagrees with this helping him with his letter to contest. He also had a medical appointment today to see if there are any medical issues that could cause his weight issues. He has struggled with his weight since the beginning of his Coast Guard career 8 years ago but the doctor is concerned because the last time they weighed him at the clinic he was only 210lbs and now he is 260lb and it has been less than a year since.

We are both just trying to come up with some sort of plan and figure out what we are going to do. I'm trying my hardest to stay positive for him because he feels awful.

Oh and get this....before this happened yesterday, they gave him a ribbon for his uniform and he won't be going to sector if he is being discharged like what normally happens because and I quote "You are a hard working person on this ship and a asset" is what they told him. Seriously?? But you are kicking him to the curb!

Is this the first time he failed the tape?

I have my own issues with how they go about getting their overweight/underweight results as it is. I hope he can contest it and find a solution the military is willing to work with

Has his thyroid been checked? If it has it needs to be checked again because sometimes problems don't show so it needs to checked thoroughly.

50 pounds in less than a year is a very significant gain. I would be worried about health issues too ... I hope he can figure it out!
