Did you guys know
For those that have spouses in the military and are going to college or interested, I believe they can go for free!
After paying for his schooling this whole time, Phil found out a couple months ago that he could of gone for free. The person who you talk to about school (I don't know what title that is), never mentioned this program to him. I don't know if there are pre-requists for it or not, though. The college posts made me think of this, so thought I'd share if anyone had a spouse or whoever going to school! Last edited by Rach; 12-06-2005 at 11:34 AM. |

neat! Kevin will start in Jan if he's here. I've been telling him to start college, but he wanted to wait until he gets out. He said that he'll get more money if he starts when he gets out. I said, "Dummy, if you do it while you're in, you can make alot more than the measly 1000 the gi bill will give you!" I know he'll fly through the classes.

Tuition Assistance (TA) is the Navy's educational financial assistance program. It provides active duty personnel funding for tuition costs for courses taken in an off-duty status at a regionally, nationally or professionally accredited college, university, vocational/technical institution, or other facility recognized by the Department of Education. Navy TA pays for both classroom and independent study/distance learning courses, regardless of course length. Courses must be offered in Semester Hours, Quarter Hours, Clock Hours or Continuing Education Units (CEUs). The credit earned must show on the institution's transcript.
All Navy Tuition Assistance pays up-front the tuition and fees charged by educational institutions for course enrollments. Navy TA pays 100% of tuition costs for courses applicable to the completion of a high school diploma or equivalency certificate. For other education levels, there is a fiscal year credit limit of 12 Semester Hours, 18 Quarter Hours, 180 Clock Hours or 18 CEUs per individual. * payment for tuition and fees will not exceed the following caps: $250.00 per semester hour $166.67 per quarter hour $16.67 per clock hour $166.67 per Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Who is eligible? TA is available to both Naval Officer and Enlisted active duty personnel and Naval Reservists on continuous active duty. It is also available to enlisted Naval Reservists ordered to active duty 120 days and to Naval Reservist Officers ordered to active duty for 2 years or more. To qualify, service members must: * be on active duty for the whole length of the course. * attend an institution accredited by a regional, national, or professional accrediting agency recognized by the Department of Education. * receive counseling from a Navy College Office * if enlisted, determine if a CLEP/DSST exam could take the place of the course to be funded (either ask your school or your Navy College Office). If a CLEP/DSST exam credit could apply, consult with your Navy College Office for instructions on taking the practice test and scheduling an appointment for the test. * provide all grades from previously funded TA courses and reimburse all W and F grades. (Withdrawals for involuntary reasons may be granted with command verification.) * Agree, if an officer, to remain on active duty for at least two years upon completion of courses funded by TA. This obligation runs concurrently with remaining obligated service time. Those who fail to serve the obligation must repay the TA funds expended on their behalf during the last two years of active duty on a pro rated basis. Will Navy TA fund lower or lateral courses? * Yes, courses leading to degrees and certificates at all levels will be funded, regardless of previous educational achievements. Will Navy TA fund courses longer than 24 weeks? * Yes, now distance learning courses longer than 24 weeks will be funded up front. The DANTES Distance Learning Application procedures, with reimbursement occurring after successful course completion are no longer used by Navy. What fees may be listed on the TA Application to be included in TA funding? * Fees directly required for course enrollment may be combined with tuition. Navy will pay fees that are published, mandatory, and charged for course enrollment. * Mandatory non-reimbursable fees meeting the criteria listed above may be funded with TA. However, if the course is canceled allowing the tuition to be refunded, the student is responsible for paying the non-reimbursable fee. * Sailors requesting payment of fees with tuition are responsible for providing accurate fee information to their Navy College Office when applying for TA. What are the Restrictions? TA cannot be used by Naval Reservists if not on continuous active duty, by enlisted Naval Reservists if ordered to active duty less than 120 days, or by Naval Reservist Officers if ordered to active duty for less than 2 years or more. * Up-front TA funding is not provided for courses if the institution's drop-add period or late registration date has passed. * TA cannot be used to pay for books, e-books, CD-ROMs, etc. * TA cannot be used to pay for flight training. * TA cannot be used by Naval Reservists if not on continuous active duty, by enlisted Naval Reservists if ordered to active duty less than 120 days, or by Naval Reservist Officers if ordered to active duty for less than 2 years or more. * TA cannot be used by those in a duty-under-instruction status or in an officer accession program involving full time instruction at a civilian institution. * TA will only be approved for courses scheduled for one academic term at a time. * TA will not be authorized for the same course previously funded by TA. * Up-front TA funding is not provided for courses if the institution's drop-add period or late registration date has passed. * Reimbursement of TA funds is required for all failing (F) grades, incomplete (I) grades in effect longer than six months, non-reimbursable fees paid for canceled courses and voluntary withdrawal (W) grades. Reimbursement by money order or cashier's check payable to U.S. TREASURER must be mailed to: Commanding Officer NETPDTC TA Accounting N8115 6490 Saufley Field Road Pensacola, FL 32509-5241 https://www.navycollege.navy.mil/ta1.html

Ca has EOPS. It's a program that can help with books, so if someone is here they can ask for that. I tried when I moved here, but they go by what you made in the previous yr. We made too much (I have no idea where it went! hehe), but I will try again for spring since I didn't work all of this yr.
