    Job stability...

    ... I FINALLY HAVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I've posted several times on here about my sucky job situation. Basically, I finished my masters two years ago and decided I want to go into an extremely small field (only two organizations in the country are devoted to it kind of small), but I haven't been able to get a job in it. So I continued the working in the research lab I did my masters thesis in. My contract only lasted for a few months at a time and there were several times where my contract had ended and my boss still hadn't sent money my way so I thought I'd be out of a job and it was stressful and horrible.

So anyway, my university applied for funds to start this new global health center and got it got approved last year. The money was finally mobilized by the state for it this year, but so far there hasn't been any work put towards making it an actual thing (as in more than just a name). So my new boss hired me into that Center in September, but he wasn't sure how he'd be able to move the money around to keep me on permanently. He sat down with our department head this week and they were finally able to make a plan for me. So in January my current OPS contract will end and they will hire me on as the project manager/communications specialist/administrative head of the Center in a full time Staff position. They aren't sure what my actual title will be yet. I'll get a raise, all the benefits, tuition wavers for up to 6 credit hours per semester for whatever classes I might like to take, and I'll have a guaranteed salary position for the duration of the current financing term of this Center (3 years I think). I'll be the only full time, non-science staff member handling pretty much all of the non science related aspects (admin stuff, setting up conferences and international agreements, community outreach, etc). It's not the area of global health that I originally wanted to be in, but its exactly the sort of work that I was looking for so I'll finally be able to get the experience I need to get into that other field. Currently there is no way in hell I'd be able to get a job with this level of responsibility and leadership in any field so it's a REALLY REALLY good move for me.

When my boss told me yesterday I almost started crying in relief. I'm so excited to finally be moving in the right direction career wise.

I'll probably have to take you up on that at some point. I'm figuring out everything as a I go along, so there is a huge learning curve right now. I'm sure it will get worse as the Center gets up and running and I take on more stuff.
