    Confused alternative medicine thesis statement

    Advertisements
I have been having trouble with this, but what do you think of this thesis statement. It is an argumentative essay.

The use of alternative medicine is a wiser choice for our health care system instead of using drugs that can bring side effects.

What do you think? I am trying to argue , that society should only use alternative medicine to get healed instead of conventional medicine that brings side effects...

    Please help.....

Too bad my DF isn't here. He likes that argument, and uses alternative medicines for himself (but uses what he must as a corpsman for the Marines).

However, whenever anyone asks about what they should do, outside of work, he suggests alternatives.

Wish I could help, but I'm clueless

    You're welcome.

OMG I you. I don't have any advice, but am a BIG advocate for alternative meds. (to also include acupuncture, massage, EMDR therapy, Reiki...) DB is fighting PTSD right now and we are avoiding the drug aspect because have seen too many friends' lives wasted by medications

Just wanted to say good luck and what a great thesis!

    I think I got it!!!!

Alternative medicine has proved its effectiveness over the years, it should be chosen by our health care system.

But, I think instead of chosen i should put another words... any idea???

    Correction

Alternative medicine has proved its effectiveness throught the years, therefore should be the only healing process through our healthcare system.

Are you arguing that alternative medicine should be the sole approach to treatment? the primary approach? an accepted approach?

I think one problem is that the clauses are phrased awkwardly.

    If you reversed them

"Alternative medicine should be the only healing process available through our health system because of its proven effectiveness."

    it's not as awkward.

Then you have, as I see it, a couple of issues:

    1. You're going to have to explain, very quickly, the parameters of your definition of "alternative medicine"

    and

    2. Explain why you're excluding (essentially) Western medicine, which is the accepted mode of treatment.

I, personally, think you're going to struggle to make such an extreme case.

I would argue that AM should be accepted and funded through insurance and that practitioners should be educated on holistic approaches.

I could even see arguing that it should be the first/primary mode of treatment, but penicillin is a pretty persuasive reason not to exclude all of Western medicine.

Of course, I'd also argue that you should refine the thesis as you do your research and writing.

    Hope that helps!
