AMU Students
Anyone ever requested an extension on your work? Ever have one denied?
I just had to ask for one... life has been beyond stressful and I can't make it in time. I"m so over it all.

So funny that you post this Elizabeth. I actually did e-mail my teacher and asked for either an incomplete or an extension.
I started a new job on post last week that is a "big girl" (aka salaried/self-sponsored) position, our employee quit, I have 2 finals and another paper due, and a husband who cannot move from the couch really. You know what my teacher did? He pretty much laughed via e-mail and told me that he basically had to hand it to me because my excuses were above the average my-dog-ate-my-homework excuse. I told him curtly that I do not appreciate his sarcasm and that I would just do whatever it took to get the work done. My research prospectus is incomplete or rather, not a 100% like it could have been. But you know what? He was being a jerk and I would not take an extension from someone who speaks the way he did. As though life has never happened to him. Are you doing your Masters? I know you told me before but I forgot. Did you ask for the extension? If so, how did it go? |

I'm working on finishing up my bachelors. My prof already approved it, thank goodness! Fast response on his part. I really hated to play this card, but I told him I had to travel to the states recently because of my brother's suicide attempt and I'm just plain stressed. Which I am. I am flat out exhausted! But now I have the extension, thank goodness. I'm normally a very good student, this has been frustrating me!

I'm glad it was approved! I was going to say that your situation definitely warranted it and you documentation to prove it. I hope you can get caught up, just take it one day at a time!!!!

And as far as extensions go, I had to ask for one this past spring because my Guard unit got activated during the flooding up here, and both of my profs were awesome about it. One was part of the MT Guard and knew some of the higher ups in the ND and MN Guards so she was incredibly supportive. I have had nothing but positive experiences at this school. |

Thanks! I will take answers from anyone who goes there, I am just nervous about startinjg school again. Does anyone know about how online schools are viewed in the real work force? Are they taken as seriously as a physical college diploma?

As far as being nervous about starting school again, the nice thing is that they actually require you to take a class that guides you through the "classroom" first. It's kind of mundane, but it makes it a LOT easier when your real classes start. Plus, it gives you an idea of what it'll be like so you can judge if you like it or not before putting lots of money and time into it. Oh, and they take transfer credits really well. They transferred all of my classes from a previous school, as well as a ton of credit for my military training. For more info, I know there have been a couple other threads regarding AMU and there are a bunch of others here that attend as well. If you want more info you may want to start another thread so people don't skip over it after reading about the extension, when you're asking for just general info. |

I've never had to ask for an extension myself. I have only taken two courses with them (foreign languages) to transfer to my other university. But my husband goes to AMU and has had to get extensions because he takes classes during deployments. The professors have always been understanding of that.
As for thoughts on AMU. My personal experience has been negative. I'm in German II right now and there is only one other student in the class. There is no discussion and the teacher never responds to emails. I think it's an absolute joke and if I didn't need this class by a certain time to transfer to my other school I would be making a bigger deal out of it. My husband says it's 50/50, depends on the professor. I know when I looked into graduate schools I decided against AMU because they didn't really require anything for admittance, just proof that you received your bachelors before finishing the program. It is personal preference but I wanted a school/program that did take your GPA, test scores, etc into account when admitting you. AMU doesn't at all. |
