W on your transcript - School & Work

Does a W on your transcript affect your GPA at all? I have just about had it with chemistry.

I just looked at my transcript from when I withdrew from a class and it didn't even count toward my hours for that semester, so it didn't change my GPA. However, I know my school had a thing where you could only get a W up until a certain point in the semester and after that you got an F if you withdrew, so you might want to look into that.

When your transcripts are viewed, a W is frowned upon. It's kind of like, they know that you withdrew from the class, and you don't just withdraw because the class is too easy for you, kwim?

it won't affect your GPA...it will just be on your transcript...I had a W and it has not affected me at all

Also wanted to say a W will look better than a D or F if your having that much trouble

It has NEVER negatively affected me and I withdrew for health reasons. I usually stated that whenever my transcripts were being reviewed but I probably didn't need to.

Ok thanks girls. I would mainly be doing this because I don't want a bad grade affecting my GPA. I will talk to my advisor first before I drop it though.

your best bet is to talk to your advisor. i know at my school after a certain point in the semester you cannot withdraw.

We have a one time drop policy where you can drop a class anytime in the semester with no approval from the college.

Sometimes it can depend on the school. I've dropped several classes in the past and received a W for it. It never affected my GPA. I did retake a couple, so a letter grade replaced the W.
