Has any obtained their degree, then later decided to attend Nursing School? I am about to finish my bachelors degree in Business with a concentration in Human Resources online and still have that urge to do Nursing. Now, I don't have any nursing experience, but have wanted to do this for a long time now. What I would like to know is, have you obtained one degree then decided to go into Nursing? If so, what level in school did you enter? Is it hard to use your bachelors degree to enter into nursing? Also, about how long does it take (considering you have a degree already) to complete whatever Nursing program you attended. I am still trying to figure out which program I want to do.

I would guess that you would start as a Junior, but you'd probably need to take some lower-level courses if you don't already have them.

i'm getting my BSN as a second degree now.
OP, i'm not being snarky when i say this, but your post is really vague. i mean, there are so many different nursing programs, literally 1000s of them in the US. are you looking for a bridge program? traditional 4-year university? trade school? teaching hospital? do you want your BSN, or your associates? do you have any science credits? do you know where you want/need to go to school? are you wanting to become an RN? LPN? some kind of tech? why are you interested in nursing? (you just always wanted to?) my advice to you would be to google around, do some research and see what schools/programs appeal to you. do you have specific questions? are you trying to chose a program b/w a few choices? if so, what are the differences in each option? every program has its own curriculum, pre-requisite classes, entrance exams, application deadlines, etc. my program required a bachelor's degree with at least a 3.2 GPA, bio I, chem I, microbio, A&P I and II - ALL with labs, statistics, phsychology, humanities and english credits; a personal essay, a CV and a resume, you had to fill out the application and then there was in interview process. it took me over a year from the time i decided i wanted to go to nursing school to finish the pre-reqs i needed, research what school i wanted to go to, apply and get accepted. now, the program i'm in is an accelerated one-year BSN program. after 12 months in this school i'll be able to take the NCLEX-RN, and if i pass i'll be a registered nurse. my classes are M-F totaling about 38 hours a week, with some clinicals on the weekend; the program itself actually takes 48 weeks, its a calendar year though b/c of time off in between quarters.

I don't think you are being snarky at all. Facts are what I need and you have given me good information. I love to help people. When someone gets sick or injured, I hate it because I don't have the medical training to help them get better. Having kids, I want to be able to know what is going on with them when they are sick and how to get them well. I have family members with different issues (cancer, MS...etc) and hate that I can't offer any kind of advice on what they can do, what types of treatments will help them out or any of the sort. I believe that when you are looking for your career, you should find something you LOVE to do and would do without getting paid, then find a way to get paid for it. For me, that would be healthcare. I'm not sure what field exactly, but that is what I need to google, like you said. There are so many different fields withing nursing, that it gets kinda confusing. As far as which kind of program I am looking for, well, I need that info too. I'm just trying to get as much info as I can about getting into nursing before I take a big step like this one. I have 4 kids, a dog, and a husband. Lot's of things going on and I have to decide. My DH already told me he would let me use his G.I. bill, but I have to figure out each step for getting into the field. That's all. When I read the websites, so far, what I found was because I have a degree, I would enter at an advanced level, but is that necessarily a good thing? I want to be proficient in what I do. Thanks for all of the info...Time for me to google ![]()

I'm getting another degree in nursing. I have a BA and an MSW, but am not happy doing counseling.
I looked into accelerated bachelor's programs for those with a bachelor's, but I need to attend school at night. I need to work FT. So I'm doing the nights/weekend program at the community college. I had to take several pre-requisite classes and am taking the last one this semester. I should start the actual nursing program next fall (they don't have spring start). |
