where do i begin
how in the world do i start my job search when i live 4 states away!?! i don't even know where to begin. what routes have you all taken to find a job when you're moving?
i'm moving to ft. bragg in july/august, and i'm not above driving to raleigh for work either. i just really want to start looking now, because i want something more professional. i'm afriad if i wait to start my search until after i move that i'll just end up working retail or food service... which is fine, but not ideal. i just need help and ideas

Are you moving there to live with someone? If so, and they are already living there, out their local address on your resume. Employers are loathe to hire someone who is not local....This is the biggest thing I can recommend.

i've done phone interviews for a few...i mean, they will want to meet you in person probably after you get there...but for the initial interview, phone interviews are a good way to go. i always state in my cover letter that i am moving to the area and plan to get there in X amount of time.

Sort of depends on the type of job you're looking for. If you want something on base as in Civil Service you can look at www.usajobs.gov. If you want something in one of the cities or towns around you can usually go to their webpages and find out job openings. Another way is through local newspapers. Some of them will have online job search sites.
Most of the major defense contractors hire around big bases like Ft Bragg and you can find out about their job openings on their websites. You can also go to the state employment commission site http://www.ncesc.com/ to look for jobs. Does this get you started? |

i'm not really sure what i want to do, which is mostly the problem. i'm finishing my degree in sociology, and right now i'm a nanny and work in radio promotions. radio is fun for now, but not something i'd want to do forever.. the hours suck.
the links posted will be helpful though, thanks! |
