Ok, Andy's telling me he's depressed and he sounds kinda bad. He's deployed for another probably 5 months and this is his first one. He's been on sleeping pills and is scheduled to see a psychiatrist. These were his words "the doctor prescribed me ambien, the sleeping pill because im so stress out about you and the baby that i cant sleep at night. And i havent seen the psychiatrist yet but i will on the 23rd because of depression. I have fallen deep into depression, and its hard to get through the day." I know the only thing I can do is try to comfort him through my emails, but I'm really worried.

No, sleeping pills and anti-depressants, if they are given to them, those are something that will make the Navy consider them not fit for sub duty, and they can be disqualified subs, which means they will be surface. Nukes can't be on any kind of sleeping pills or anti-depressants because of the nature of thier job, if they need them, they lose nuke.

What kind of job does he do? Is he on a sub? I really am sorry that he is having such a tough time. When you talk to him just try to be supportive and tell him you're there for him.
