that is scary. at least he was ok when you moved him off.
Maybe, before you move to separate beds, try building a "wall" out of extra pillows between you two. That way you are both still there, but it is a bit of a barrier between you two until he can get through that aspect of being home

He has been home for 2 1/2 years, been hospitalized once for suicidal ideation, once in a PTSD treatment program and is about to be hospitalized again in a different program (at the end of this month). I think we're way past that point and just trying to deal with things as they come.

thats pretty scary. Even though it may have scared you, I think it might be scarier and possibly more traumatic for him to be away from you though? My grandparents have slept in separate beds for about 15 years b/c of my grandpa's snoring and they have a wonderful marriage otherwise. So, it's not the end of the world if you have to
