Has anyone switched over from tricare prime to standard in the middle of their pregnancy? Just curious...because we are having some issues with the care we are receiving at the hospital on post and are probably going to switch over to a civilian Dr. Just wanted to see if anyone else has gone through this and if you have any pointers.

I did right after I found out I was preg again. They would not refer me off post to a specialist after 4 losses and I had enough. My only advice is to make sure you have them fill out the global authorization form before the first visit. If not you have to pay the 150 co-pay. It's a one time fee though, so it's not that bad. Also my drs office sends bloodwork off to the lab, unless the lab is covered you will have to pay a small percentage of the cost. I have paid like 30 dollars for 2 sets of draws. Emergency rates can be high I have heard, but the hospitals that I had to go to twice did not charge a certain fee that they usually charge for standard. I have no idea if that is done at most places or not. Also you still can go on post for ER and pay nothing so it's all up to you. HTH

Yeah well in an ideal world lol....my primary dr would not give me a permanent referral. He did give me a one time thing and I went to my dr now off post for a consult. The off post dr sent over a treatment plan for me to the on post. He did not agree and refused to do what he said. Just wanted to do the same thing we had been doing...which wasn't working. Apparently the high risk dr has no idea what he is talking about. Although I am now 33 weeks pg with a healthy baby girl.

heh, it's all good. I did post directly after you; and in your post you talked about how they wouldn't refer you out. I thought with prime, you could request out. They can either deny you (like in your case) or approve you. Honestly, if I could do it all over again, and I wasn't already 33 weeks pregger, I would go with standard and see an outside provider. I totally understand what the OP is talking about. My level of care has been terrible.

I am/have never been pregnant BUT i fully intend on switching back to standard if not now, than when I get preggo. i HATE the base hospital here and do not trust them for any medical care at all. So I completely understand why you want to do thi.
