I have a question about birthing classes. I haven't taken any and my due date is coming up here really soon.(8 wks to go!) My husband keeps having to go on fast cruises, so he's gone during the week. When he's home on the weekends he usually sleeps or is helping pack. We move when I am 36 weeks pregnant,so we are trying to get as much packed as we can ( while I still can) in addition to cleaning/fixing up the house we rented so we get out deposit back. It's very overwhelming, I feel like there is so much to do. I don't know If I will even have time to take classes. I have a midwife and doula. I know my body is made to do this... it it going to be ok? I really nervous. Has anyone not taken birthing classes? do they tell you what to do there? I'm really anxious/nervous/scared about it all.

Never took a class. Didn't want to. When it came time for me to deliver, the nurse just told me to use my hands and pull my knees to my chest and push while breathing out for 10 seconds. Breathe in quickly. Do it again. Continue like that until the contraction is over. It was simple. Honestly, I don't really know what the point of those classes are other than to put your mind at ease BEFORE you go into labor. Once you're in labor, there is a million things going through your head, and I guarantee none of them are those labor classes probably. haha

This is my first and I'm not taking a birthing class. The way I see it, my Mom had 5 kids and my sister had 3 without taking a birthing class, so I think I can do it too!
Totally your personal choice though! |

Just read some birthing classes and maybe see if you can find some good laboring positions on youtube to practice at home? Just so you know your options. Are you having a hospital, birthing center, or home birth? I think that might change how much preperation you need. Dr. Sears "The Birth Book" was a good easy ready, and "The Thinking Womans Guide to a Better Birth" was really informative too. My son (my second child) was a natural birth and we didn't have time for Bradley Classes since Austin was an R&R baby.
