My son is about ready to pop, any day, and I have chosen not have an epidural. I have actually chose no pain meds at all. Has anyone done a natural birth? What were your experiences? I know its going to hurt and people tell me I will give in, but I am that stubborn to prove them all wrong. But I am honestly getting a little nervous.... Any brave souls out there?

I did with my first, though it was accidental
I didn't with my twins because I had complications and the risk for c-section was too high.I can say with all certainty that it hurts like hell, but it is easily doable if you learn some simple pain management techniques and you are allowed to move around freely. Have you done any sort of birth classes/lamaze/Bradley method? |

I did with my son, what hurt was the actual contractions and not him coming out! Every birth is different so your going to hear lots of stories but most likely your birth will not compare to any of them! Good luck I only had one natural after that the remaining three I had an epi

well you're braver than I am. I'll be making sure they know as soon as I get to the hospital that I'll want an epidural. DH and I actually had a discussion where I told him that if he wanted me to go without meds then he could deliver this baby, otherwise he's going to have to get over it.
he said okay.

We have done so much moving in the past two months, all I have had time for is doc appts. I do practice on my own, breathing and focusing. I also want to be able to move around, that is one reason I don't want it. Moving around seems to help me when I am in pain.

I am 100% planning on a completely natural water birth
![]() I have no experience yet to share, and I haven't done any classes so I can't suggest anything... but you should search online looking for pain management tips during labor and delivery! Best of luck to you

I had a natural birth with my last and I'll be doing it again with this one. Honestly, the IV drugs? They do nothing for the pain. They just make you loopy.
And, FOR ME PERSONALLY, the risks with an epidural/spinal are too great. I won't have one, so I'll deal with the pain. (Unless I'm in a situation like below) By the time you start to think you can't do it any longer, you're almost there (you're typically in transition) and it's almost over with. Good support is key here. I got aggravated because they offered me drugs, twice. I shouldn't have to come in and say I don't want anything offered to me and have to say I don't want it twice. If I change my mind, then I'll ask. And there are times when it can be helpful. If I'm not dilating and you're getting stuck, then I would consider pain relief to help "open me up" but other than that, I plan on sticking with a natural birth. It hurts, of course it does, but it's manageable and like I said, good support is key. |
