Am I just being paranoid?
When your sweetie came home from deployment were you a little worried about their driving? My fiance isn't home yet, however, I am a little worried about letting him drive my car when he first gets back home. He will be coming home very soon and I am just kind of concerned about this. When he came home for r&r he wanted to drive so bad, but I was kind of reluctant to hand over the keys cause, quite honestly, I didn't know if he may get overly paranoid about a bag of trash or what not.
When he was home for r&r he would point out certain things near the road like, sand bags and say "see, over there, I wouldn't go near that". So its little comments like that that get me nervous, thinking that maybe he might slip up and forget he is back at home, not over there and that he might swerve and hit someone else. I dunno. Is this just me being paranoid? I've never dealt with a deployment before, but I was just wondering if this was ever a concern with your guys when your SOs came home...

I worried about DH's driving before he left!
![]() Seriously though, it is recommended that they dont' drive for a while after returning from deployments. He may want to drive, but I wouldn't let him go out into heavy traffic for a little while. Just ease him back into it, just like anything else when they come home.

Oh driving is a bad idea at first. Dh came home from Korea and he was a bad driver at first ONLY because it had been so long. A friend of mine came home from Iraq on R&R and he was SO nervous he wouldn't go over 20 miles an hour. He wasn't use to being in a vehicle alone. He kept feeling like something was going to happen and nobody had his back. It was really bad. Be very careful with that.

Yes, see, THAT right there is my main concern... He never was the best driver to begin with and I know that with those vehicles over there he can't really drive "under normal conditions". The main problem I see occuring is that I live in the Austin area and our traffic is horrible and can happen abruptly at any time of the day. During r&r we had to drive through both austin and san antonio traffic and I wouldn't let him do it. I think I let him drive once during those 2 weeks and luckily it didn't get too bad, but I could see that he may have been a little more apprehensive than before. I didn't know that they reccomended not to drive for a while after they get back. I'm not sure if he would have told me that or if he would have just tried to let that slide..

Yeah DF kind of freaked out with the car going fast or if I was too close to another car. He gradually got back into it, driving to short errands and stuff. It's just another thing to be careful and aware of. If he or you isn't comfortable with it, take turns.

My mans was awful when he got home. He would get in the fast lane and not pay attention to his speed. Hed go from like 45 to 80 on the freeway and I would be freaking out saying just get over. He would always say sorry, the only thing I drove over there went like 12 mph. He's better now, but it was a while before it got to that's
