Debriefing??? - Post Deployment

Hi Ladies, My DB (Navy Reserves) is finally coming home from Iraq later this month!!!

He told me he has to go for some kind of debriefing (I think that's what it's called) at a base here in the States before being released.

Does anyone know if he can visit me on the weekends during this time, or me visit him? Also, how long does this take??? He did not seem to know when I asked him...

Nope - no visits from anyone during the debrief. Because that is the point of "debriefing" .....decompress and let the reality of actually being home sink in a bit. Being immediately faced with loved ones that soon is NOT a good idea. Plus most of the debriefing is paper work and administrative crap anyway. Doing counts on gear etc.... depending on how many are returning -- it shouldn't take any more than 2 weeks. Mine only spent 7 days in 29 Palms, CA for debriefing. After being home for a week they ended up having to report back to their home base like a full time job for a week.

Thanks for the info. Did your SO come home first and then go to CA for the debriefing? I'm just wondering when the soonest will be that I can see him...

He'll go straight there.

Mines gonna be there for about a week but he is in the Army. Not sure how different it is. Unless he goes to Teaxs and then it'll only be a couple days. I think it depends on where they go to as well.

He went straight there but when they first arrived in the states they were given cells phones temporarily just to call loved ones to let them know they made it.

Thanks ladies for letting me know what happens. It's too bad I won't be able to see him right away, but at least the debriefing shouldn't be that long.

It all depends on where he goes for debriefing. If my DH goes to Indian it will be a week. If he goes to Texas it will only be a couple days.

I'm hoping he goes to Texas.
