Okay, thank you this really helps.
I usually go traditional with everything but I wanted to give him an engagement ring because we are going to have a long engagement. Would that be a good idea? Or should I just forget about it, I don't want to buy him one and he not be able to wear it.

I think you should get him one if you want too... Different scenarios depend on if he can wear it overseas or not - like his location, but at least he could keep it with him and maybe wear it when hes got time off?
