At last a phone call
At last last night I got DB on the phone. He's been back from Afgh for a month now and he hasn't wanted to talk to me or see me. I think he picked up because I was calling from France and he didn't recognize the number, but he didn't hang up, and we spoke quite gently about how he's doing and what he's been doing.
He was open finally about some of what's going on. He said he doesn't let himself think about how he's feeling because he's scared about what that might be. He also said he was getting a serious bunch of tests done because he is having trouble remembering things - from the last year and a half. And also that he has an appointment with a counsellor tomorrow. And of course all the usual problems with crowds, noise, driving, sleeping, etc... We didn't talk about us, but we agreed to talk again... so I don't know. At least I know where he is and how he is and I feel a little less panicked.... |

OMG that's great news! And it's good that he finally opened up a little bit to you so you at least know that it's him going through a bunch of stress right now and not you. Slow and steady things will eventually get better.

I'm glad he talked to you--I think that will help him...
From what I have seen the hardest part is admitting to someone what's going on...I think a lot of guys still see it as a weakness, when really it's just a sign of how strong they have been for so long...and finally it catches up to them, and it takes a while to sort through it all. to you, and I hope he continues to communicate with you so that your burden is easier to bear.
