Recovery - Post Deployment

Hello ladies,

I was wondering:

What happens during the post deployment recovery phase (Army)?
Do the soldiers get off for a while? Or will they go back to normal (regular working hours, PT and so on) right away?
Are there special classes?

This is my first deployment and I 'd like to know what to expect.

i can tell you what sort of happens for Marines because my DH is going through it right now...

he is going through a transitioning program, and at the same time he has half days at work. The program is mostly people talking to them, they get lots of pamphlets that explain the symptoms of ptsd, he said he watched a few movies, and they have like a list of things to acomplish with a time limit, and what the instructors do is assess how well they handle the stress that comes with completing those tasks in order to see if they may have difficulty adjusting. He isn't doing PT yet, but he think he will start that next week. He is getting a 36 soon, and shortly after I think he should be getting leave.

hey there! I'm not sure if it's the same for everyone but when my dh gets home he gets 2 days off right away and the 10 days of debriefing and after that a 30 day leave. he's army but it still might be different, i'm not sure. hope that helps.

DB is Army, but does shorter deployments. Last time he was in the office for a few hours the day after he came home. It wasn't his typical long hours, but he was in the office nonetheless. He had to take emergency leave a week after he got home due to a death in the family. As soon as he got back from that, he was back in the office for full days. Basically, in DB's unit, you are expected to jump right back in as soon as you get home.

My DB told me after he gets back from deployment, he will go to base and then fly right away to see me.He will have a 2 month leave before he gets back into training for his next deployment to Afghanistan.

After the last deployment it was a little weird. He only had one night off and went right back into training. He had half days for a week though. They saved up his r&r for the christmas exodus

My guy is about to come home. They told him that he will get 2 days off and then go to reintergration briefings for 7 days. After that they will work for the next couple of weeks until thier leave in july.

My man is actually electing to work the week he gets back to get some stuff done for our move then he has a month off.

I actually learned a couple of days ago that they'll have a 30 days block leave when the whole battalion will be back
