It's been more than four years...and I'm still in undergrad!
Lol.
Okay I wanted to start this for everyone who is in college/university and has been in school for more than four years. This is for everyone who has received the shame face when they explain to relatives that they are in their mid-20s and still finishing school. This is for every person who has to go into an essay long explanation as to why they aren't done. This is also for everyone who doesn't have a college degree. Come by here and talk about it! Here's my story. I'm 24. I'm still in undergrad. I recently came off of an almost three year break, and I just registered for a my classes this week. Before my break from school, I was a full time student who besides having a heavy courseload, I also worked 50 hrs a week, I also designed clothing, and modeled, and was in a long term relationship that took up a lot of my time. I was burned out! So I took a break, and then I got married..and one semester turned into two semesters, I got a great job, my husband found out he was getting deployed...yeah, you can see where this is going. I shared this because, you wouldn't believe the commentary I've received when I tell people that I'm not done with school. They range from caring and passive "so are you back in school..what are you doing with yourself" and my favorite, "well as long as you finish, that's all that matters", to the very blunt, "Girl, you need to get that degree". For people like us, people tend not to use a filter. So come and share your funny, sad, irritating, annoying, experiences!

O.k, I'm nowhere near a 4 year mark but I fall under your "don't have a degree bit". I have VERY low confidence to the point that it pretty much hinders my decision making capability...I'm sure you can see how that makes school very difficult. I also think I have ADHD...I was very nearly diagnosed in 2002 but my mom was convinced that wasn't the case. I take classes here and there and I have yet to find the confidence to just GO. When DB get's home he wants me to go full time and he says he'll help and motivate me so we'll see.
I know some people who were in school more than 4 years, program requirements change all the time! P.S- coming to Bonfire night?

Oh I for sure am in this one!!! lol I'm 24 as well and still have about 2 years to go to get my undergrad. I went right to college as plenty do, I was in a relationship with the person I thought i was going to marry, he was a year behind me in school so rather then going to UT or somewhere I stayed at home and did community college. Then transferred out of state. The relationship ended very badly. So I ended up working 2 jobs and moving back home took classes here and there changed my major to nursing. Got all the pre-reqs for the program out of the way. I applied to the school got in and found out quick it wasn't for me. So I took more time off had a good fulltime job but wasn't very happy with it. Then this past spring changed my major and went back again, quite my job and have dedicated myself to finishing up. DF and I got serious a few months before I went back. He helped motivate me to do it.
I get alot of oh your still in school are you going for a masters? Or well just as long as you finish. I just hate talking to most people about it, you see that look they give you. I try to not let if get to me, and just focus on that I will get my degree I've taken a non traditional route but I can do it.

this is sort of me. i am not in my 20's i am nearly 40 and i should graduate in the spring providing they do not screw up all my classes again. i went to beauty college while still in highschool and then finished it up after hs graduation. i hurt my hand 6 days after graduating. then i got married and had kids and decided when the kids were in school all day i would go back.
i started college in 2003 rofl and i still do not have my bfa. i took 2 yrs off when dh got sick and we moved to san antonio. i get the omg will people hire you when you are so old? and what do you plan to do with your degree if you ever get it. i also get why are you not done yet. oh and my all time favorite..... by the time you graduate won't you be eligable for social security. yay fun |

I didn't start until last semester... 23 and I think I'll probably be working on it FOREVER! I'm only taking 2-3 classes at a time so we can pay for it out right rather than have debt. Mostly the reason I'm getting it is a backup in case anything ever happened to DH and to be socially excepted in my family.... The latter of the two is kinda sad, but thats how they work.

I started college in September of 2003 and I will be done, one way or the other, Friday at noon. I'm currently 5 credits sort of my degree. Mine was a combination of not wanting to be a student anymore, my advisor "forgetting" to mention key classes I needed to graduate, and my choice to attend a liberal arts school. It's really the general education classes that killed me.
The worst part is my family. They keep making jokes about me being a female Van Wilder. Thanks a lot for your emotional support, people. Love you too. |

I worked full time and live in an area where the community college considers 4:30 to be "night time". So there weren't many classes available to me. I got my AA thinking I was going in to finance (since I was already working in the field). One morning I woke up, decided I hated my job, and applied to nursing school on a whim. I got in and had to pretty much start over.
Go me!
