Help Should I get the Nikon or the Canon?

    Advertisements
My canon sd880 has a lens error message and when I searched the internet it looks like it's common and a pita to fix. I will try to call them and see if it can be fixed but it spurred me to look for a better camera.

I got a headache from all the choices. I know that I just want better pictures. I have a lot of mediocre pictures and I want to increase picture quality. At the same time I want some level of portability. Nothing huge or bulky will do. I am gong to go to a few stores tomorrow and see them in person.

Any thoughts? I searched and this one came up a lot: Canon PowerShot Pro Series S3 IS 6MP with 12x Image Stabilized Zoom.

But then I read more and I saw all the recs for the Nikon D40, which is on sale for $450 (is that a good price?) shipping included. It comes with a lens.

Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera Kit with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens

Nikon would be much ebtter in the long run, they last longer and have better mechanics.

Canon is much more user friendly though, if you don't want to sit down and read the entire manual then go with Canon. And they do last, they are just a bit more expensive to fix when things do break (so shell out the extra for an extended warranty! Lol)

Both would take the same pictures, and have alot of the same pictures.

Thanks. I ended up having an incredibly lazy day (still in pjs!) but I did decide to go with the Nikon. I just have to see it in person to make sure it's not too intimidating or something. I'm low tech!

Canon says it will cost at least $119 to repair the camera I have. It is just over a year old and I got it for about $250. No way can I pay all of that to repair it.

If I get the new camera I will for sure extend the warrantee.
