What I asked for from DH for xmas

    Pentax | Pentax K-x Digital SLR with 18-55mm Zoom Lens | 16302

I'm excited. I researched DSLRs and this is the one I decided on . I have a 35mm Pentax ... the only thing is that this particular camera doesn't come with a package deal including a zoom lens. I'm okay with that though. Just gives me more room to grow as I learn.

the only thing i gotta say about that is you are stuck with pentax lenses. i have a pretty simple "beginner" Nikon SLR but i know in the future I can get really nice lenses , and it was about the same price,- i got the basic range lens and a zoom lens. it was the d60

What made you decide on the Pentax? I have to film SLR's that are Pentax, but can't decide what to get in DSLR.

I chose this because I have a film Pentax and I just like it. I never had issues with it, it was easy for me to learn with. I might only be stuck with Pentax (and Sigma) lenses, but I've heard that if you get a Canon, you can only get canon lenses. And to me.... after researching DSLRs... I'm not a serious photographer so a DSLR is a DSLR is a DSLR. I really like this brand, I like the style, I like the features. That's why I chose it. Yes, I shopped around but the pricing was all the same for the white body.

Besides the type of camera... I also am a firm believer that you can do anything with any type of camera. My old boss at the art center I worked at used a little sony cybershot point and shoot for his photography and I'm telling you.... his photos were better than a friend of mine who owns about $30,000 (no joke... he inventoried it all) in Canon photography equipment.

haha hey i totally agree with that. i got a MAJOR scholarship from my art school , and i was using a point and shoot HP camera I got for free . and my nikon is not top of the line, but at some point i got limited with the point and shoot.i was just thinking if you were doing more studio/portrait stuff you can get sharper lenses, but im sure pentax has good ones too

Thank you for your suggestions! I definitely shopped around before I chose what I did. I can't wait to put my hands on it and start posting some photos from Italia!
