    No pull

    Advertisements
What's the best no pull collar, harness, or training you've tried?

We got a new dog at the shelter this weekend. Pretty sure sure lived somewhere with a fenced in yard and never walked on a leash before. She is a hound mix, so has a pretty decent pray drive and get focused. It's been hard taking her out, and teaching her to potty outside cause she gets so distracted.

Head harnesses by Gentle Leader work really well. Theu work like a horse head harness so the dog is not able to pull. Traditional chest harnesses actually make it easier for the dog to pull YOU (think dog sledding) so I wouldnt recommend that style.

My dog can still pull with a Gentle Leader, I think she has a strong neck. Look into the Freedom Harness. It squeezes them when they pull and you can attach the leash at the front, the back or both. It is a bit hard to explain, try watching a video.

    Lol she must!

I walk both dogs (combined about 140lbs) on one leash while they wear their Gentle Leaders and I get a little pull but not really. They got sick of the harness making them spin around (that's what it does when they pull) so they got used to walking by my side when they have their harnesses on.

ETA; it does take them some time to get used to walking with a head harness. You will definitely experience a lot of pulling and them pawing at the harness. My dogs would even roll around on the ground to try to get it off. BUT, it didn't take them to long to get used to it and walk by my side.

We use and love the Sporn Head harness for two of our dogs. It's much sturdier than the Gentle leader, but the same concept. The padded strap puts pressure on the snout when they go to pull. We have used it as a training tool, and the do great without it now except when taken out together.. Then they are more worried about keeping up with the other so we use them then.

For the other we use a front clasp harness. She is a bit weird with something on her face and she will just sit down and refuse to move at all. We use a Pet Safe Easy Walk Harness for her, and she does much better with that.

I actually bought it at a local pet store here, but you can get them online too! We bought our second one on amazon, after trying and loving the one we bought. Much cheaper online!

Easy walker harness, its the same brand as the gentle leader but easier to put on. My dog hated the gentle leader and would play dead every time I put it on him lol

We just used a simple collar and leash; hike up the collar to the top of the neck up to where its close to the skull, then whenever she pulled we gently tugged the leash back and said heel.
Rinse. Repeat. Now she slows down and gives us the full attention and lead when we say "heel".
