    Coconut Oil

    Advertisements
Goose has devleoped dry and itchy skin lately.

I have been adding a Teaspoon of coconut oil to each meal (3x/day) to see if that helps any. It hasn't.

They have no fleas, and are established on the food which is Grain Free Salmon, Sweet Potato, and Pumpkin. We took her to get an oatmeal bath at the groomers, and that helped for a day or so. There has been no new changes in her environment. We have a vet appt this Saturday, but she needs some relief!

Is there anything else I can do? I hate seeing her so itchy!

I've heard squeezing a fish oil capsule over their food is good for their skin and coats.

Our vet recommended fish oil too. We use a wild salmon kind that comes in a big bottle with a pump top, they have them everywhere and on amazon. Also, he warned us not to bathe the dog too often. He gets dirty really fast because he's a high energy maniac breed lol but we try to rinse him in between actual baths to keep from soaping him up too frequently.

We just give our dog a fish oil pill when we have one with our vitamins. She knows the sound of that pill bottle and waits to get hers thrown to her - she thinks it is a treat.

I have three suggestions for dry flaky skin...
    1. antibiotics -- IF the problem is indeed staph or some type of infection
    2. one table spoon olive oil in the food 2-3 times a week / and massage olive oil on the skin right before shampooing (sort of like hot oil treatments for us) -- i like olive oil and use it on my own hair as well, but you can use coconut oil if you prefer.
    3. Humidifier in their living space to keep the air moisture

Good luck! i hope he recovers soon

They have a 5 gallon waterer that they drink from, and they urinate normally. Gums are nice and pink with a wet nose, so I don't think she is dehydrated. I thought about possible dehydration but there is just no way. They drink ALL the time.

We have Grizzly Salmon Oil for them, that I will start putting on her food as well! I haven't used it yet because they were so young.

    Thanks everyone!
