    New Family Member!!!

    Advertisements
    Meet our new family member!

    This is Moose.

Moose is a rescue who was being neglected at a family friend's farm. He is covered in ticks, so he's currently in "quarantine" until we can get him to the vet (tomorrow).

I don't know too much about him, other than that he's about 18-24 months old and the best we can guess he's a german shepherd + golden retriever + God-Knows-What. He's about 70 lbs and the sweetest dog. At first he was terrified of all of us, and didn't even know what to do with a treat when we tried to give it to him.

But when we took him to a U-Wash pet place, he let us wash and scrub him without so much as a whimper (other than that he was terrified of walking inside).

So far our other dog seems to be fine with him. Moose was around 3 other dogs and was definitely NOT an alpha. Danny isn't aggressive towards him, and could barely get a sniff in before Moose peed himself and hid behind DH's legs.

It's going to take some time to socialize them and rehab Moose-- but Danny started out pretty much the same way.

We've already made some progress. He did take food out of my mother's hands and then later this evening he tried to sit in my lap-- all 70 lbs of him.

I know I've been MIA, but I wanted to share! I will let you all know what the vet says tomorrow!

I told DH that even if he didn't work with our family, we needed to get him out of there. I mean, they had him tied up with an old phone cord and there was no regular access to food, water or real shelter. When I saw that yesterday, it broke my heart. It tore DH up too. This morning I woke up and said, "I can't turn a blind eye to that." DH agreed. So we spent 6 hrs round trip getting him-- stopping on the way home to give him a bath, get a leash, collar, kennel etc...

I was fine spending the money to clean him up and get him to a good forever home.

that WE are his forever home!

Thank you! I'm very excited that we're in a position to be able to rescue another dog. We've wanted to for some time. The kinda crazy part is that our current dog (who is like 35lbs and our best guess is a corgi + basset (??) has a lot of the same coloring (the 'dusting' of black in the ears and tail), the same color (except for around the mounth) and the same kind of double coat coarse + fluffy undercoat fur... They actually kinda look like they could be brothers...

I'll try to get more pics of Moose today, but here's what Danny looked like when he was younger. Moose has a much bigger, blocker head, but they're both snuggle bugs.

so I walked outside this morning and our new big baby will only hand feed-- He still doesn't know what to do with a treat.

He sniffed my hair and rolled over to show his belly to me-- and let me rub it. So much for needing to be "broken to your will" like the previous owner had suggested. So glad we got him out of there.

    Pray that he's healthy.
