    Coughing ??

    Advertisements
We've had Sabre since Tuesday and last night he started doing something kind of weird. Every once and awhile he makes this hacking type noise. At first I thought he was gonna puke but it's more a raspy sound. Is that a doggy cough? I've never heard one before but I don't know how concerned I should be or if there is anything I can do. He is still eating and drinking but is just laying on my lap resting. Every now and the he sounds like he's clearing his throat and then he lays back down. ??? Not sure if it's just a cold or allergies or something concerning.

Kennel cough maybe? Watch him and if it gets worse I'd call the vet. I hope you get answers! Feel better doggy!

Also could be a reverse-sneeze? I thought my pomeranian had a collapsing trachea because they're prone to it... Turns out it was a harmless cough

With just adopting him I'd take him to the vet. Kennel cough is like the flu in humans in that there are a ton of strains and you can't vaccinate against them all.

The raspy sound makes me think reverse sneezing.
My golden had that. It's usually caused by post-nasal drip in their throat (often allergy related), and so can be helped by pointing their nose up and rubbing their throat to encourage them to swallow.
