Vet savvy peeps, I need some opinions. Includes cute puppy pictures

So rex and molly were suppose to be coming home to us today. But Rex hurt his eye last week playing. So he went to the vet got meds for it. Follow up was yesterday. Not the best of news. This is what she wrote in the email.

She put another stain in his eye to see it under her light correctly and the ulcer was still there from the injury (bad news) but today she was able to see new blood vessels forming over it.
(good news). I was not sure myself what exactly that meant for Rex.
She said, that is the body's way of correcting the problem and repairing his eye. There was no infection found. The medication I am putting in his eye is doing it's job to keep infection down, it's his body fixing his eye injury alone at this time.

Her summation of his problem is: The fact that she was able to see new blood vessels growing in eye today was a good thing. If she had not seen that today she would have sent me right away to Richmond to the eye specialist for him to remove ulcer with surgery.
She wants me to keep him on medication for another week to see how he himself repairs on his own. If there is not enough improvement next Sat. then my next step is surgery for Rex.
I guess the vet is pretty sure he will be fine and it will go away, but I'm still unsure, and really don't understand.
Guess I'm just looking to see if anyone has ever had this happened.

Its his right eye (so left on the picture).

    And here's sweet Molly

They are both little! under 3 pounds!

I feel so bad for the little boy! I just want him now. But if he needs surgery she willing it done for him, and won't charge us for him. So she's actually a good breeder! Hopefully though we can go get them both on Sunday.

If his eye is revascularizing be prepared for him to potentially have a scar on his eye, forever. They can still see, assuming its small enough, and wont hurt, but vascularization is the bodys way of healing.

Didn't know that! Thanks for telling me that. Def will make sure to give him a good look over and ask about it if we get to get him.

    Poor pupster!

What about getting the vet info from the breeder? That way you can contact them to get the full story without having to go through a middleman? I know the breeder doesn't have to but I can't imagine them saying no ...

Thats a great idea. Do dogs have "records" like humans do with doctors? I guess I should ask for those so I can have it on his file. We are two hours away from the breeder so not a quick trip!

They do and since this sounds like a reputable breeder, you'll likely be given the records but it won't hurt to ask. My shih tzu came from a breeder as a "second's puppy". Not the right looks and whatever, this was now 7yrs ago so I can't remember why else, I fell in love with him. But anyway the day we brought Brutus home, we got his whole vet file right down to every time his nails were cut so I wouldn't be surprised if you get the whole shebang, too.
