    Gentle Leader

    Advertisements
Got my pup a gentle leader today. I absolutely love it and could immediately tell a difference.

However... because it's still new she won't stop trying to rub her face on the ground trying to get it off I know she'll get over it after she gets used to it.

If you have a gentle leader, did your dog do the same thing? It's hilarious

He did! And he never stopped. He'd walk with it ok for a little bit but then he would stop in the middle of the road and try to claw it off his face. That was more annoying to me than the pulling so we don't use it anymore.

You have to condition your dog to associate it with good things and reward them for allowing it and not trying to get it off their face.

Yep, our Aussie did the same thing! They eventually get used to it and stop though. I haven't seen her do it in forever and we use the gentle leader every day.

We tried it with Mason and failed miserably! He just completely ignored having his head pulled down. We switched to a prong collar and that has completely changed life!

    We've been doing that.

She responds well to it, she just doesn't understand why there's something on her nose She gets better every time we go out with it!

Do you use a regular harness with her or did you go from a collar to the gentle leader?

Switching to a regular chest harness made all the difference with Finn. He was such a shitty walker before. I realize that's my fault cause I didn't put enough effort into leash training him while he was small, but I couldn't take him out with me when he grew cause it felt like he was yanking my arms out of the sockets. I got him a chest harness and he didn't even need to be trained or anything, it was like walking a totally different dog. He doesn't even try to walk ahead anymore.
