Question about male dogs -- UPDATE

    Advertisements
This is kind of gross, but is it normal for male dogs to discharge from their penis? At first only one of my dogs was doing it, but now they both are. I'm not sure if it's something that just happens or if they have an infection. It looks kind of white/maybe a tad greenish/creamy. It's hard to get a good look at it because as soon as they notice I'm looking they lick it up.

Update: I took Teddy in today and it turned out to be a UTI. Poor little guy, I wish I'd taken him in sooner. I've got to take his brother in on friday to get him checked out too.

My dog has it too. I think it's called smegma.

So it's normal? Is there anything that can be done about it? This is really nasty, but I think it's staining my sheets/couch. Is it ok for them to lick it all the time?

It is normal. My dog doesn't have it all the time so I don't know if there's something that can be done about it and if it's ok for them to lick it a lot. I'd double check with a vet though.

One of them is, the other one is not.

I have never noticed it on mine, but he's a Golden retriever and has a lot of fur so maybe I just never noticed

Hmm I googled it and it said neutering should help, but if the other one is already neutered I'm not sure! Maybe ask your vet? Apparently it's a symptom of all kinds of scary things.

I don't remember my dog ever having discharge but since he got fixed there's like no activity down there. He never even gets boners thank god.

Wanted to add that if it's so bad it stains your sheets, etc I would definitely ask the vet.

I've been thinking about it. I just didn't want to take them if it's nothing. I've never had a boy doggy before so I thought I'd ask around on here first. As far as staining my sheets, its not like a huge puddle. Just little quarter sized circles.
