    Puppy doesn't know her name

    Advertisements
Our puppy is almost 12 weeks old. We got her at 8 weeks. She still doesn't know her name. Is that normal? It's been a while since I've had a puppy so I don't remember. We call her by her name all the time, she just doesn't respond to it. Any suggestion on how I can get her to know/respond to her name?

You have to teach them that their name means "attention on me"

Thank you! That helps. I will try that. She won't even look up when we say her name.

I've had my adult dog for 3+ months and I'm still not sure she knows her name and I use it a lot. Maybe some of the advice shared here will help me too lol

I'm pretty sure that fairly normal Even a 3 month old human doesn't know their name yet. And you've only had her a month. It's going to take some time and conditioning

Mason didn't respond to his name consistently until he was 3.5-4months old. We use his name as a "focus" command. So when he hears his name he knows that a command is coming and if he listens and follows the command then he knows a treat will be soon to follow. The treat is the big incentive for him to respond to his name. So I don't know if he recognizes it as his name or if it is just a command to pay attention.
