I am trying to convince DH that Sherlock needs to get on the couch

    Advertisements
I've never had a dog that wasn't allowed on the couch and I miss the snuggle time Our floors are tile and DH won't let our big rug back into the living room yet for fear Sherlock will chew on it. I have no where to snuggle with him unless I lay a blanket down which is still incredibly uncomfortable. How can I convince him he needs to be on the couch? He says he wants a hair free space for guests to sit. Sherlock barely sheds though. Le sigh. This is more of a whine than anything

I vacuum our couch twice a week. I think DH would object more if our pups were big shedders.

You could get one of those doggy blankets and drape it over the area Sherlock will sit in, like the kind people put in their cars? That way, the area will be hair free.

Puppies don't typically shed so you won't really start to see that for a few months. Maybe go out and buy an armchair that he's allowed to sit in.

I have 2 puppies that sleep in the bed with us! I don't really notice hair on the couches just on the sheets but company doesnt have to worry about that. I would just put a blanket on the couch for him to lay on.

What about putting the blanket on the couch? Or getting a beanbag or something to make the floor more comfortable?

You can use a cover (ie blanket) for times when Sherlock is invited onto the couch to protect from hair, etc. Also, this is helpful because it helps to enforce in his mind when he is/isn't allowed on the couch as it adds a visual cue to your verbal invitation/cue to let him know when it is okay for him to get up there.

I agree with the blanket draped over the sofa idea.

As for convincing your DH the dog needs to be on the sofa. We have a cat that randomly sleeps on everything though. So I didn't have that issue when we got Denny. Kiwi(our fat kitty) will sleep on the table, in the window, on our bed, and on the sofa whenever she feels like doing so. So when it came to allowing Denny it just happened, because I figured if the cat can sit on everything/shed on everything as she pleases. Then Denny can get on the sofa with me whenever he pleases.(he's REALLY good at waiting till I give him the okay/call him to get up on the sofa though.).
    Signature removed due to size.
