    grizzly is sick

    Advertisements
For the past few days grizzly (our puppy, about 10 weeks or so) has had a hacking cough, like he had something in his throat. Just now he pooped in the house twice (he has only pooped inside once other than today and last night) and he threw up several times.
Of course, my 10 month old son found one of the piles of poo/puke before I did
What do I need to do to make sure puppy is okay?

Take him to the vet and have him tested for parvo whatever else. It might be kennel cough but they should be able to give him some antibiotics. Give him pedialite with a dropper.

at 10 weeks, he definitely needs to be checked out by a vet!

Your dog is sick. That you even need to ask what you need to do is puzzling to me...

    Take him to the vet.

Call the vet first, if it is Parvo you don't want to contaminate the waiting room and they will want to isolate him. But yes, a vet visit is in order ASAP.

Call the vet, describe what is happening and take him in. As Brave said, they may ask you to bring him in in such a way as to avoid exposing anyone else's pets in the clinic so it's doubly important to call ahead since this is very urgent but not a 911 ruch to the ER type thing where you just pack him up and go in w/out calling. He needs to be seen today!

he is dehydrated and his temp is low. They just did a parvo swab and drew blood. My poor poor puppy.

Eta: negative for parvo. They think it is a respiratory infection of some sort. We have antibiotics to give him and they gave his fluids and we are on our way home

That's a good update - at least it isn't Parvo -- lots of healing thoughts for your little guy! He'll feel better just having the fluids on board, they can get so down, so fast just from dehydration.
