hi all...i have a cat that is a yr and a 1/2...while i've been out of town visiting family, my Mother in law has said that he has gone #2 outside of his litter box on 3 seperate occasions. can anyone give me a heads up why he would be doing that when we've never had a problem before

I think cats will do that if they have a urinary tract infection.. Maybe he's sick!!

They'll also do that if the box is too dirty for their preferance...

he is probably mad you are gone, lol!

if you get home and he still is doing it, call the vet..

cats can be very possesive of their owners and heaven forbid we have lives and have to leave them for a few days, lol

When we left for 2 weeks our cats had a cow! Even though our roommate was watching them! Jacks was going behind our bedroom door! Took a few days for both of them to warm back up to us!

If he's still acting funny and going outside his box, I'd probally make an appt. to have him checked out! May just be seperation though.

He could be sick, usually it's a classic symtom of a UTI. Or he/she is mad at your for leaving.

One of our cats did this about 6 months ago for several months and we were at our wits end. She wasn't sick, and she'll be 3 in April and we didn't have any problems up until them. I guess she was just really pissed at us for something.

It may just be separation anxiety, so he's acting out so to speak. If he continues to do it once you get back, I would make an appt with the vet.

Yea most likely she is pissed at you for leaving. my one cat was very over protected of me so if i left him for a long period of time or had someone new in my life he would mark his territory.
