I used to work at a Doggy Daycare/Boarding facility - Camp Bow Wow. They're nationwide. I'm not sure if there is one near you, you can look on the website. campbowwowusa.com.
Anyways, if you aren't worried about someone stealing your pup, a chain outside is never a bad idea. I made sure all my dogs were okay with a chain simply because it was nice to have a place for the dogs to go, not inside, when I had visitors and such. Crate training is much easier than most people think. Do you have a divider for it? If not, get one. Make the space for the pup big enough so he/she has enough room to turn around, but not enough so that if they make a mess they can sleep on the other side and ignore it. The key is (and yes, it's gross), but, they don't like to sit or lay in their own mess and once they realize they have no choice unless the hold it, they usually stop within a few days. I hope it helps. If you have any other questions, I have lots of answers when it comes to dogs. Hehe.

Problem with the crate he pawed and pawed and cried for a good hour and make his paws raw. I spoke with DH Friend and he is going to come and let him out at 2 everyday before he goes to work for the week so that will be helpful. I only have a balcony and where I live is well not the greatest place to leave anything un-locked

Well is your doggy very friendly? Is he ok alone if he get walked? Cause I can come and walk him a few times a day if you want, i'm home anyway. Just an idea if kenneling isn't an option.

I have a 3 year old Pomeranian and crate training was very difficult with her as well. She still gives me a terrible time. She cries and cries and cries and it breaks my heart. The longest I've left her in the crate was about 12 hours one day when I got stuck at work and couldn't make it home. She was pretty upset with me at first, but she got over it.
I don't know of any kennels near you, but I've had my dog boarded with her vet for a few days. They're usually cheaper than other places and it's nice knowing there's a vet there if there's any kind of emergency. |

Np, i'd say he can come over here but idk if that'd be ok w/ the other dogs because of his staples. If you can do the Doggie Daycare that'd probably be ideal because he wouldn't have to be alone and getting into things. Worse comes to worse though, you don't have to cancel your trip, i'll walk him if you need it.

We had a hard time kennel training at first too. We kennel at night and when we're gone during the day or if I just can't deal with them. I'm usually home during the day so they're usually just kenneled at night. It really helped us though to put a bed in with him and then place a blanket over the kennel so that he felt secure and wasn't distracted by stuff going on outside the kennel.

Don't feel bad. Crate training could have helped him earlier, and it will probably prevent him from getting hurt again. Dogs aren't too bright with what they eat. They'll eat just about anything, as you know. You have to stick with the crate training, otherwise what are you going to do? Bring your dog everywhere you go? You already know you can't trust him unsupervised (well, he's a dog), so crate training is necessary. He'll get over it, give him time.
