"Animal cruelty"
So the other day I walked into the local pet store here where I always go to buy my dog food and stuff. I was looking for those prong collars for when you walk the dogs because mine just pull and pull and pretty much pull me over whenever I try to take them anywhere. I have tried regular choke collars & harnesses and neither worked, so I have resorted to the prong collar. Anyway I walk in there and can't find any so I ask the lady if they had them and she instantly starts chewing me out saying how they don't believe in those because it is animal cruelty and told me I should be ashamed of myself and all this crap. I was like
are you freaking kidding me? So I snapped back and said "all you needed to say was no we don't sell those here. Instead you chose to react the way you did and you just lost a customer who spends hundreds of dollars a month in here on food. I will never walk back into this store after your nasty comments." Then I left. So now I have to go to this other store (who does in fact sell the prong collars and they work wonders) where my dog food is easily $5 more per bag. I just can't believe she flipped out on me the way she did, completely unnecessary. End of my little vent

I would tell a supervisor. Because at your job you need to be professional and she was not and cost them a customer. Plus I would understand if you said you needed a big stick to hit your dog with but that wasn't the case. And in any case she should have kept her mouth shut and talked to a supvisor if she felt you were abusing your animal. It's called a chain of command and procedure. You don't yell at a customer because you disagree with them or because they ask about a product you don't like. That is not right and make you seem like the bad guy when you are not.

Eeek!!! See, I was against prongy dog collars, too, until I had to use one with my sisters golden (he doesn't pull anymore) and am now a firm believer.
She should have minded her own business. I would've told a supervisor for sure. That is not professional. I'm sorry she snapped at you You're not abusing your puppers!

wow, I have a beagle and when I took him to doggie school, my trainer told me to get a prong collar for him because he would pull against the leash so hard and choke himself. I asked him how bad they pinch the dog's neck and he said that you can't look at it that way, you have to look at it as you are saving the dog's neck because by pulling on the leash, they can actually damage their esophogas if they continuously do it. My dog behaves so well with the prong on that he doesn't even need to be pinched. (unless he is around other dogs and goes all barky, thats the only pinching he gets) I think prongs are excellent choices.

im against the prong collars but i certainly would not have gone off on you. she is there to sell you stuff not judge you on what you buy. im sorry she treated you like that.
on a side note...have you looked into gentle leaders? my whippet pulls like crazy and this is the only thing that has worked for us. i dont know what kind of dog you have but the works for little dogs as well as big dogs like German Shepperds. Its used like what they use on horses. just a link to show what it looks like:http://www.amazon.com/Premier-Produc...403114&sr=8-14 |
