ADVICE!! I want ...
a small dog to play with, dress up, and occupy my time will DB is away. Does anyone have any advice on a good, smart, loving, family dog or any words of advice about dogs to stay away from? Where should I get it from? What's a good price to pay?
What do you have? Where did you get it? How much did you pay?

I personally think pugs are adorable and they're around 400$. I'd personally stay away from pit bulls and boxers but they've always scared me.

My recommendation to you would be to borrow someone else's dog if possible and take complete responsibility for it. If you want it when your DH is gone, you need to know what it'll be like to handle a puppy without help. DH and I had my sister's lab come stay with us for a week to make sure we were up for the responsibility and make sure DH wasn't allergic. Good luck.

i adopted a pit mix about a year ago (unfortunately she had a heart attack ) but she was one of the best dogs i'd ever had! I got her because I was living alone and i felt that she would be intimidating to any possible intruders. However, she never barked at anyone while we were walking or if they were walking by my apartment. She only barked if someone knocked or was hopping onto my patio (ground level apt.). She never growled. It really just depends on the individual dog and their temperament. Some are great, others are not (and unfortunately the one's that are raised incorrectly are the ones that give the others bad reputations)..... Just depends on your preference...I've always thought that yorkies were adorable!! but they're so expensive! over $1,000....and that's why I don't own one!!

things to consider before you get a pet
PLEASE make sure you read the above and consider ALL scenarios and options. I am a huge advocate of adoption, and you can even adopt puppies, it's not just older dogs. I highly recommend you do research and consider if you truly have the time, money, patience, responsibility to bring a dog into your home. In some ways they are like having a child and they can change your lifestyle.

My dog is a some sort of terrier/yorkie mix and she's a great dog. I got her at at pets supplies plus for $125. She came with a free bag of food and a free check-up. Both yorkies and terriers are really good types of dogs. They don't require a lot of needy attention like some other dogs do and they're great dogs for kids.
