leaving a puppy
tomorrow i start work and i am going to be leaving my 15 week old puppy at home
i am really sad leaving him in his pen from 7-5!!! i work about 30 min away so i dont think ill be able to come home to take him out and DH is on base all day so he can't come either...i know this is a stupid question but should i feel bad about leaving him in his crate/pen for so long?? i just feel like all the training i have done is going to be going out the door cause he will be pissed that he is locked up! and what about his food & water!! i am really worried...

You can just put the food and water in his kennel. I know I can't trust Auto with that... the Kennel named him Flip for a reason
but I have a bunch of people that always come in and out of the house all day, so thankfully, i don't have to leave a bowl with him.

He'll be ok, as PP said leave him a little snack in his crate. He'll know that if he goes potty in his crate and he has to stay in there he won't do it again because he doesn't want to be around it. After while he'll adjust to being alone, I used to leave a bone or chew toy in my dogs crate at that age and that helped too!

He'll be fine! My 9 week old (now 2 y/o) puppy stayed in his cage for 8 hours although I weened him into it a little bit. Left him in an hour longer every weekend KWIM? He DID mess in his cage quite a bit, if it's not TOO cold where you are I'd leave a window cracked in the room he's in! Might get smelly. Just make sure and take him out IMMEDIATELY when you get home! And lots and lots of rewards if he doesn't poo in his cage!!

you could always get a dog walker!
i dont know if they are available where you live, but i use to work for a dog walking/pet sitting company.. very helpful, esp if you are nervous about leaving all day.

When I started work again I had to leave my Yorkie home alone for the 1st time too. Since I don't believe in putting my puppy in a cage I went to Petsmart and bought a pet gate and I gave the entire kitchen area to him and also left the TV on until we came home after 5. As long as you leave the radio and TV on he will be fine. Plus he has all the space he needs.
