Peeing when greeting
My puppy, Lia, (a four month old golden retriever) pees whenever anyone but me comes around her. Example: My mom, who she sees at least once a week, comes over and sees jumps up and stands (her front legs on Mom's to brace) and just pees. Can even be people see doesn't know. She not peeing on them, just right there by them. Does't matter if she just peed.
I hope it is a phase and as see gets older it will stop. Anyone else dealt with this?

Let's get together and feel alright.

She could grow out of it as she's just a baby but it could also be a confidence issue. Is she on her back, showing her belly when she pees? If so, she's showing the ultimate form of submission. If she is squatting while greeting someone, she may just be overly excited and have a loose bladder. (Although, I believe, it is still a submissive state to release urine during greeting.)
I would talk to your vet about it and get her into some training classes to become better socialized and confident.

she's excited. alot of puppies excitedly pee. MOST grow out of it. buy her some diapers for when you know you're going to have company if it really bothers you.

She's not on her back peeing, she's standing up on two legs. I have assumed it is just a puppy excitement thing, but my last one did not have this problem. I just grab the paper towels and clean it up.
Want to know if there is something I should do, or just wait it out; ultimately I would like her to just pee outside (as I am sure is every dog owner's wish).

Probably just have to wait it out.
My dog did this when I first got her, at 1 year of age. For her it was definitely a confidence issue (I suspect she was mistreated, if not abused, at some point in her life, and this was probably one of the expressions of it). For me I basically just ignored it (and the scathing comments from people who didn't understand), cleaned it up, and waited it out. She got better over time. She STILL does it (now about 2.5 years of age) around CERTAIN people, but it is ALWAYS accompanied with fearful behaviors and displays (like trying to flee) - again convincing me it's a fear/confidence issue and that she was probably mistreated, if not abused, at some point in her life. |

my one Golden used to do that and eventually grew out of it. I think it's how they show they are being submissive. It's annoying. I trained my dogs to always sit when greeting someone and I made sure to tell people that came over to NOT pet them unless they are sitting, that seemed to make things easier, took away some of that "ME ME ME OMG SOMEONE IS VISITING PET ME" that all Goldens have

Our lab did that as a pup, he would get so damn excited he would piss rainbows. He will also do it when intimidated. With the greeting thing, we would tell everyone to ignore him if they came to our place. After they got in the door, I would take him right out to pee, then bring him in where everyone was sitting down and calm. It worked most of the time.
My dog grew out of it mostly, if he sees my parents (every few months) then he might excited pee, but he doesn't do that with anyone but my mom or DH when he gets home from long trainings, and that is because they both fawn over him and make him SUPER excited. Another thing, looks like your dog will grow to be decent sized, training will help your dog learn how to greet people with out jumping up, and if you take a class I bet the instructor will have more potty ideas!
