Pictures: my horse
Just thought I'd share my horse a little.
![]() He's been not feeling well this past week. He got a hoof abscess. It opened up this week and he's starting to feel a lot better. Between Sunday and today he looks LOTS better. He's still sore, but he's moving more, and more willingly. The abscess was in the sole of his left front hoof right behind his toe. His front right foot got sore from compensating. The farrier came out to trim him, but couldn't because he was so sore and uncooperative. When I came out to check on him, he let me clean out all four of his feet, despite the soreness, and let me find the trouble spot even (he's my good boy!). I tried soaking his foot in warm epsom salt water, but he wouldn't have any of it. He'd let me put his foot in the bucket, but as soon as he felt the warm, wet liquid, he decided it was too much. The third or fourth time of this he knocked over the bucket, and that was the end of that! At least he's feeling better, and I've seen improvement every day this week. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hes beautiful. Another way to treat his abscess is to put some iodine on it and get one of those boots to put over it (your supposed to soak it in ebson salt first though but seems your horsey doesn't like that
)Hes a good looking horse I hope his foot starts to feel better. |

Thanks for all the compliments!
Once he's all better again I'll be able to start riding him again. He's such a good boy! When I can't ride he always looks so sad, especially when someone else is out in the arena riding. |

He's feeling LOADS better today! I was able to clean out all four feet without complaint (even yesterday he was still ouchy about me cleaning his right front, since that meant he had to put weight on the left which is where the abcess is located). Still didn't like the idea of getting his foot soaked, but at least let me put his foot in the (empty) bucket! That means it's just the water he doesn't like, which really doesn't surprise me (he "hates" water - it used to be WWIII trying to just hose off his legs, though the last time I tried rinsing him off after a good work out he actually liked it!).
There was a horse out in the arena being ridden. When I got there it was also dinner time. He stood there the entire time the horse was in the arena watching while he ate his dinner. It was so sad. Then after I fly sprayed him I had to go wash my hands off (so I didn't get nasty fly spray on his treats), he followed me to the gate and stood there waiting for me to get back, like he was saying, "Wait, take me with you, I want to come!" He's well on his way to recovery, so in another week or two I can probably start working/riding him again. He's going to like that! |
