Dental Cleaning
I took my dog in for her annual checkup/shots last week and they told me her teeth looked pretty bad and she needed a cleaning. I guess I had no clue how involved a teeth cleaning was for dogs, lol- they quoted me $570!
Of course we have the money and will pay it as needed, I'm just wondering if this is a pretty typical price for a professional cleaning? Should I ask around other places to see what they say?

DF says $100-$150 where he worked and even pulling a couple teeth shouldn't be more than a couple hundred.
I'd definitely get a second opinion/pricing. Crunchy bones and special toys can help keep them clean after that. They even make doggy toothbrushes and toothpaste. ![]() ETA: Here's a general pricing of it. http://www.costhelper.com/cost/pets/...-cleaning.html Did the vet mention any other problems included in that quote? It seems ridiculously high.

I've always been quoted $500-700 or so...
My cat had to go in earlier this year for dental work. She had an infected tooth that needed to be removed, and then had her teeth cleaned in addition to that. Because of her age (16 years) they needed to run all kinds of blood work to make sure she was healthy enough for anesthesia, then one of the levels was off so they had to run an additional urinalysis to find out what the deal was. It was nothing serious and they were able to proceed - she made it through just fine and was very happy to get back home! I can't remember the exact price off the top of my head, but it was $500-550 |

That sounds really high, and usually it's unecessary. Do you think you could brush your dogs teeth? The sell special toothpaste and toothbrushes, the toothpaste tastes sorta like dog food. Also if your dog likes to chew get him lots of rawhides and they're are lots of special "dental" chew toys. My dogs love them and because they chew so much the vet always compliments their teeth. If they really need a cleaning, i'd shop around a little bit.
