My little dog Emmie likes to play with her food. She takes a piece and flips it up into the air over her head and then pounces it like a cat She's done this since she was a puppy and she is over 2 now.

my dog carries her food a few pieces at a time to the carpet (across the room) before she eats it.

i think it's because she does that with kongs and rawhides to get more traction, but the food thing doesn't make sense at all

your dog's behavior sounds really cute, though! hopefully it doesn't make too much of a mess

She ate on the carpet too until I started feeding her with the crate closed.

She only does it with 1 piece at a time then eats it

My dog refuses to eat straight out of the bowl as well... he has to move a few pieces to the carpet first.

Grace does the same exact thing...she flings it around and chases it and then finally eats it...its like she wants to hunt her food

My dog won't eat out of a bowl. He picks his food up and puts it on the ground and then eats it off the ground. He would do the flip thing but he is very uncoordinated.

Our Odin does this... DH and I have decided the reason he is so skinny is because he works off all his calories prior to consuming them.
