    Is it worth the $$$

....to get my puppy tested for allergies.

The vet said it can be pretty expensive, but I think she has really bad seasonal allergies. The vet told me to give her 5 mg of benedryl every 8-12 hours. They also gave me a spray to put on her pause to decrease the inching.

But they said if it doesnt get better, that they will have to take some skin and run tests, but it is said to be pretty costly.

Has anyone else done this? Is it worth it?

I have never done it but if my puppy was suffering then of course to me it would be worth figuring out why so it could be treated.

Yes, if she is showing symptoms, it would be worth it, imo.

I doubt it...allergy tests are really expensive. I'd just give benadryl or sometimes if its really bad doctors will give steroids. I look at it this way..I have allergies, I don't know 'what' I'm allergic to in the spring exactly but I know if I take my allergy medication I feel better. Thats really the whole point.

My dog has ridiculous allergies as well, but I can't give him benadryl or steroids cause he has epilepsy and is on too much medication already. Those poor babies. You hate to see them suffer. Keep trying the benadryl though, and if it helps...just do that.

I've never done it but of course it'd be worth it. I would never let my dog suffer. I hate my own allergies and I can't even imagine how I'd be without the tests I took for all mine.

    Thanks for all the opinions!

I also have really bad allergies, and pretty much all i do is take medicine everyday to help with the reactions...which is what I am doing for Bella (my puppy).

The tests are said to be $500 and if there is a need for shots, it would be around $2000 for all of them. UGH.
