    Cats: De-claw or not??

    Advertisements
I'm getting a cat in a few weeks. I just want to know what everyone thinks about this. Should I get her de-clawed or not? She will be inside all the time.

I say no. I don't believe in that kind of stuff, I've known the sweetest cats to change after getting declawed.

I'm sure it might be different to some, but dang, I don't want my nails taken off.

I don't see anything wrong with declawing.

I don't have a strong opinion on it. But when I got my kitty my aunts older cat is declawed so we had my zoey beanz declawed so that it would be like fair for both cats.

It really had no effect on her, she got fixed in the same surgery and was honestly hurting way more from that then the paws.

I only did the front 2 though.

Yeah, I've been thinking about just doing the front 2. My DB is scared of getting scratched. And I kind of am. LOL! Not a high threshold for pain. Plus my furniture won't get scratched up.

My cat is declawed and I'm so very glad. My brother's girlfriend has two cats and both have not been declawed because she finds it cruel since it's basically like if you got your nails pulled out. It's really up to you. Personally, I would rather not be scratched to hell by my cat. He's a bully and smacks my face a lot for no reason. Gosh the damage claws would do if he did that and had claws. Eek!

OH! Yeah, it's probably good that your cat is declawed. LOL!

I know that many people feel very strongly against de-clawing.

My experience and opinion are that it is okay and of no harm and has no detrimental effects to frontde-claw only.

I have had countless numbers of cats in my lifetime and the most recent experience I had (as in the last 20 or so years) was that I lived in the country and had a country veterinarian. He had only barn cats and all of his barn cats were front de-clawed.

It is a risk to the cat to remove the back claws; when a cat fights or hunts, it is his back claws that he uses for defense and for killing. Removing the front claws will not hinder your cat in any way. My cats have all remained excellent hunters after being front de-clawed.

Not only no.... but HELL no.

IMO, declawing is selfish and cruel.

Please consider soft paws.... they are FAR more humane:

FYI, I am also against docking tails, cropping ears, debarking, etc. I kinda feel like (in general).... if you're worried about barking, clawing, or looks.... maybe you shouldn't have a pet.

    Amen!!

I will add that eventhough there are no claws they still have teeth! and i swear their jaws get stronger to make up for having no claws!!
