    What kind of dog?

    Advertisements
Db and I have been talking alot lately about getting a dog, either when he moves home or sooner so I won't be here by myself. I think I'd feel safer in my apartment with a dog (I don't have roommates) and he thinks having a dog to take care of will help keep my mind off him being gone. But we can't decide what kind. I've done several quiz things that are supposed to help match you with a breed, but it hasn't really helped much. I think he really wants a golden retriever, which I'm mostly ok with except that I don't want a dog that sheds a ton. He also suggested a weiner dog or an English bulldog. But I don't want a weiner dog, and don't bulldogs drool a ton? He wants a "manly" dog I need suggestions!

Are you going to buy from a breeder or get a pound puppy?

What is your activity level? Do you jog, or go for walks? Do you want a lazy apartment dog? etc etc. Gimme lots of details and I'll try to help!

Go get a pound puppy. You'll take comfort in having a friend while he's gone and it's a plus that you saved him/her from living in a cage for the rest of his/her life. If you just browse the shelters, eventually one will catch your eye and be the perfect match for you. That's how I did it with my last 3 dogs.

we have an eng bully! they are adorbale, personable, loving, stubborn breed
they dont drool a lot, theyre just messy eaters and drinkers. They dont need a lot of exercise...maybe a 15 min walk. They are prone to a lot of health problems though, but if you stay on top of them and be preventative, theyll be fine.

    OMG - I want him

OP, what about a standard poodle - it's big enough to be considered "manly" (especially if you don't give it a foo-foo hair cut), shedding isnt' an issue, they are super smart and make great family members.

I have no clue whether we'd go the breeder route or get a pound puppy. I guess that will depend on the kind of dog we decide on. I do want a puppy though, rather than getting an adult dog.

Let's see...I don't want a dog that's too active. Db wants a big/med indoor dog, and I'm ok with that. I just don't want a ton of dog hair or drool. I've got class/clinic Mon-Thurs 8-4, so I don't want a really stubborn dog that's hard to train and I'm sure I'd probably have to have some help with someone coming over to let it out. We don't know what db's schedule will be like once he moves back home, and we also don't know when that will happen (most likely the end of this year).

I had a shih-tzu and he's my Mom's dog now because he really took to her and does't like anyone else. He's so mean and stubborn, and I don't want another breed like that.
