Germany and Cell phones
Curious if you ladies and Gents know of the best option for getting/using cell phones out in Germany. I will be moving out there in the beginning of the year to be with DH and were are looking into getting Cell phones.
Is it easier to just get an international plan through a local cell company before I leave the states?? Or should we get a plan specifically for germany? TIA |

T-mobile Europe has a plan where you can get international calling. I forget the exact price of it!

prepaid phones are probably your cheapest option, we use those for calling each other and other German numbers but for calling home we have a landline

Get a voice over IP phone. That way you can have a state side number and its a flat rate. You can get cell phones on top of it if you so choose. Thats what works best for DH and myself. We'll get to keep that number to matter where we go.

I would use pre pay. Getting a land line is sooo silly. We have one all because my hubby wants the I-phone. but other than that we really don't use it that much. We have a landline also which has free calls to the state its about 50euro which is about 70 us

My suggestion is wait until you get here. Then you or DH can ask around and find out what people have that is the best/cheapest in your area, and also convenient.

PRE PAY PRE PAY PRE PAY!!!! It's the best, easiest way! You don't need a plan here, especially since most of the plans, the contracts are in German, and I hear if you want out it's a lot of money to cancel. I never used pre pay in the states, but here in Germany I'm all for it.
