RAF Mildenhall/Lakenheath - OCONUS (Over Seas)

So my dh leaves to go in less then 2 weeks and I will be heading there in December! I have an 8 mth old son and info on anything about anything will help me alot! I just need anything! I am from a small town and this is a big change! I am ready for it but anything to help us to prepare would help me out alot!

Congrats on the awesome assignment! My husband and I have been at Lakenheath for 4.5 years with only 1.5 left to go and I don't want to leave. What kind of things do you want to know? DH and I are CFBC so I can't help you with any kid related questions but anything else I can try to help with.

Are you waiting for the new housing on Lakenheath? Usually the wait is about 18 months for that. At least that's what I was quoted last week. They have base housing in Lord's Walk (where we're moving tomorrow) that's available now if you're interested.

I would start looking at houses off base that way when you get here you have some idea of where you want to look. www.rightmove.co.uk is a good website.

We are stationed at Mildenhall and live off base. We love it. But we decided if we were going to be living in england.....we wanted to *live* in england! We got our house through a real estate/ rental company.
http://www.balmforth.co.uk/ We absolutely love it. I met another Wifey through here and she lives in Mildenhall also. She was such a great help before we moved over. She helped us with knowing if the house was worth looking at....or bad neighborhood. She actually saved us! We found the *perfect* house. Huge house...in the country 5 bedrooms and 2 1/2 bath. I told her of the house online....which she did a little research. Come to find out-the house was next to a pig farm/slaughter house. Now dont get me wrong...I love bacon. But not that much! I hope you find what u are looking for!

Congrats on the orders! We will be PCSing there in late March early April of next year. We will be going through all of this as well. Things are still up in the air about moving on or off base. I think we are going to wait until we get there until we decide on it. But, I will continue to look at houses on the websites that I found. I second the rightmove website. They have a lot of rental properties on there. I have also been looking at propertyfinder.com, baselets.co.uk. I hope you have a great time over there and enjoy it. We are from a small town as well, so it should be an adventure. We are always up for trying new things and meeting new friends
