USAA Credit Card Overseas
Has anyone use USAA CC in a different country?
USAA told me that if I use my CC in a different country there is an extra charge of up to 1% of the total purchase. Anyone knows if this is true? The lady I was talking to didn't sound too convinced and for some reason I don't remember getting any extra charges last time I visited a different country but that was some years ago. Now moving to a different country that will really suck. We pay everything with our CC and then pay it of right away and if this is true we will have to change how we do things. |

I never had any extra charge on my usaa credit card. And I have used it in Australia, Malaysia, and Europe.

Yes it is true. It is called a foreign transaction charge and it isn't really from USAA it is from Mastercard and Visa. USAA was exempt from it for a while, they just started having to charge the foreign transaction fee about 1.5 - 2 years ago.

It doesn't show up as an extra charge. When you use your card, if you look below the actual charge, in parentheses but still on the same line, it will tell you the exchange rate you got and it will also read "includes foreign transaction charge" and then the amount. The foreign transaction charge amount is included in the actual charge. Did that make sense?

If you charge things on post, you do not get charged the foreign transaction fee. Not sure if that helps, or not, though.
![]() I believe that USAA's credit card charges one of the lowest foreign transaction fees though.
